The roaring 20’s and king Tut

Happy 2021! Well, it is 2021 now for several days right? People in an effort to move forward from the horrors of 2020  are now calling this the roaring 20’s. We,, to be fair I think people said that last year, and also the horrors have not ended. But there is hope now where there was none.vaccines. But they are still messing this up here in Fl.

But I digress, let’s talk something else. If you are interested in what I am wearing, it will be linked to at the bottom of the blog post. So let’s get talking about the Egyptians revival. And it all had to do with a young king who is over 3300 years old.

King Tut or as his name is Tutankhamen or was formally Tutankaten , his name means the living image of aten  or amen. Was born in 1342 BCE in
Ancient Egypt , his parents one known as Amenhotep IV or Ankhenaten. The other is kind of unknownish. She was believed to be Ankhenaten’s sister and then some believe it was Nefertiti. All we know is his mother was his father’s sister. Which is common in the royals. Yuck.
He was raised as many royal children were and from many reliefs it was shown that his father and mother or step-mother were very affectionate parents.

He came to the throne of Egypt at around 8 or 9 years of age. And while his reign was not as spectacular as say Ramses II or his grandfather Amenhotep III , he still did some good. He reinstated many of the old religion and cults, and also fixed many temples in need of repair. Tut also moved his father’s remains to the valley of the kings. And also relocated the capital from Akhetaten to Thebes once again! Still some note worthy stuff. Now Tut was not the pinnacle of strength and more than likely a direct cause of inbreeding in his lineage. He did marry his sister Ankhesenamun, and unfortunately they had 2 daughters who both died. One still born and the other died shortly after birth. Anyways ,Tut was about 5ft 6, had a large overbite which was a typical characteristic for his royal bloodline. He may have had gynecomastia,Marfan syndrome, Wilson-turner x-linked intellectual syndrome, frohlich syndrome(lot a syndromes) Kline fester syndrome, androgen syndrome, temporal lobe syndrome, and others. Now one of these are in part due to some reliefs where it showed that his hips were more feminine and that he had breasts or something. There was an explanation for this in a documentary you can watch on Hulu and prime, where it is believed that isn’t even him on those reliefs. But his sister! Or step-mother. And they just took their names and drew over them. Also dna tests confirmed the gynecomastia.  he was  disabled with a deformity of his left foot and had bone necrosis which can be pretty painful. He needed to use a cane and also had scoliosis,a cat scan revealed cleft palette, and he had malaria several times. Tutankamen died young and his burial was rushed. And soon he was forgotten in time.

Then in 1922, something fantastic happened. An expedition, funded by Lord Carnarvn and led by Howard Carter discovered one of the most exquisite and well pieced tombs as far as relics go because nothing compares to Nefertari’s tomb and its beauty. In my humble opinion. So pretty and one day I want to see it.Anyways back to the story, so they found in this tomb over 5000 artifacts! One of the pieces that everyone knows is the gold death mask. And more beautiful items. This discovery, in part thanks to a huge press release sparked the interest of the public and the Egyptian revival begun. As well as tales of curses and what not. This is part due to the fact a few people died who were involved with the discovery, one I believe died from a mosquito bite or something. Now that will bother me..
Via livescience.

It was Moyleneux Herbert! He was sickly to begin with and then caught a mosquito disease and died. The whole curse thing was then popularized by none other that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who is such a reputable source. Considering he wrote a book stating that fairies are freaking real! Ahem. Reputable...
So this drove the public to believe it more and yup. Yeah. Mummies and curses. Science goes right on out the damn window.

So my outfit I feel kind of falls into that line of Egyptian revival and my necklace is actually from Egypt. It was my late grandmother’s she went to Egypt. And she bought this necklace. I got it a few years ago and cherish it. Anyways, my dress that smells funny that I rented from Rent the runway, is more on the Greco-Roman side of Egyptian art would have you.And the style and sleeves are 1960 mod. The pinks very on trend right now for spring and summer.  And well, I still feel that this whole revival Art Deco style  ancient Egypt print is fun.  Aside from the fact this dress smells like hospital and Elizabeth Arden Red Door(yuck). Sad that I had to immediately run home and change  because it stunk so bad. But I really wanted these shots.I really wanted to share this story, and the outfit fit the story! Smell aside.
The tut collection is on tour, and with COVID I am not sure if it still is or not. It was supposed to be in la, for 21, and in 2022 it was supposed to be forever more at the Cairo Museum. Where is should be.
